Vacamas Academy
Vacamas Academy, working in parternship with Renaissamce Alternative Education
Program in Newark, seeks to provide a viable education option for students who have failed to florish in the traditional classroom
setting. Our aim is to creat a positive learning environment where students can succeed academically and develop social
skills.
Vacamas Academy offers educational experiences away from the urban classroom
incorporating the natural environment our rural setting provides. The program is designed to enhance academic achievement
and improve listening, communication and group work skills. Activities are presented in a manner that caters to a variety
of learning styles and ensures that all students have the opportunity to succeed.
We are committed to providing an environment where the individuality, needs
and abilities of students are recognised. We provide opportunities to learn, grow and build self esteem for all students.
We aim to assist students in achieving academic goals and empower them in making positive choices.
Program Goals and Objectives
- To assist students in achieving NJ Core Cirriculum Standards through participation
in experiential and discovery learning activities in a rural environment
- To offer practical experiences which enrich classroom teaching, particularly
in the areas of Science and Language Arts
- To improve listening and communication skills through the use of the Ropes
Course and activities encouraging collaboration
- To provide students with a positive learning environment where each child
is valued and supported
- to facilitate experiences which will empower students to recognize their
own self worth and in doing so improve their self esteem
